OOCs are only annoying for one reason: they scroll off the IC poses quite quickly and prevent people to RP properly, by taking their time to type a good, lengthy and well written pose...
But there is a simple way to prevent OOCs to become disruptive... Just group them with one of your IC poses !...
Do you want to enter the chat and say hello in an OOC ? Fine ! Just do it, but instead of:
10:02 Henri: * steps out of the forest and heads to his favorite log to sit down on it *
10:02 Henri: ((Hi folks !))
Use:
10:02 Henri: * steps out of the forest and heads to his favorite log to sit down on it * ((Hi folks !))
You want to reply to an OOC hello ? Fine ! Just do it, but instead of replying right away, just continue your RP and stick a ((Hello Henri !)) at the end of your next IC pose. Remember that there is usually no urge to reply to an OOC. The one who said "hello" will not be upset if you wait 5 minutes to reply them (it's not an IRC chat folks, and it's not a speed contest)...
All what is required is some discipline from everyone, and when self-discipline lacks, it's the hard and unpopular job of the OPs to teach it...
Henri.
